Southern Coastal Highway Feasibility Study to be Completed This Year

The feasibility study for the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project is expected to be completed this financial year.
Making the disclosure during his contribution to the 2013/14 Sectoral Debate in the House on June 5, State Minister for Transport, Works and Housing, Hon. Richard Azan, informed that this initiative is in keeping with the Government’s efforts to “plan ahead to meet the nation’s road infrastructure needs.”
“Once completed, the study will allow the Government to have a concrete plan in place that will enable improvement to the roadway and allow easier travel around the island,” he said.
Being undertaken by the National Works Agency (NWA), through funding by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the study will assess and design the preferred alignment of the proposed South Coast highway from Port Antonio to Harbour View (Phase I) and Negril to Mandeville (Phase II).
The proposed works, Mr. Azan added, will also complement the existing Negril to Port Antonio arterial network.
