Six Outstanding Clarendonians to Receive National Honours

Six outstanding persons from the parish of Clarendon will receive national honours at the 2006 National Honours and Awards ceremony to be held at Kings House on National Heroes Day (October 16).
The awards will be conferred on the recipients by Governor-General, His Excellency, the Most Honourable, Professor Kenneth Hall.
Three recipients, who will receive the Order of Distinction in the Officer Class, are Clement Anthony Radcliffe, William Leon Shagoury, and Neville Fitzgerald Myton. Mr. Radcliffe will be recognized for his outstanding contribution to education, sport, and culture particularly as Principal of Glenmuir High School for the past 23 years, and for his role as President of the Inter Secondary School Sports Association (ISSSA) since 1989.
Mr. Shagoury will be awarded for his entrepreneurial contribution to Clarendon as proprietor of the Shagoury Group of Companies and his contribution to social and community development in the parish, as Chairman of several civic and development committees, including the Clarendon Parish Development Committee, the Police Civic Committee, and the Clarendon Crime Prevention Committee.
Meanwhile, Mr. Myton will be recognized for his contribution to sport development over the past 43 years. A two-time Olympian, he is presently Sports Coordinator at the Jamalco Refinery in Halse Hall.
The other three awardees will receive the Badge of Honour for long and faithful service. They are: Lester Brown, Pastor of York Town Seventh Day Adventist Church; Ira Everiod Douglas, Public Assistant of the Vetting Committee at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security’s May Pen office; and Winston Mortimer Stewart, Chairman of cocoa and coffee production groups in Clarendon.
The ceremony will commence at 9:00 a.m. and guests should be seated by 8:30 a.m. The National Honours and Awards recognizes outstanding Jamaicans who have made a significant contributions in different spheres of national life. Persons are awarded with some of the country’s highest honours, including the Order of the Nation (ON), the Order of Jamaica (OJ), and the Order of Distinction (OD).
