Sisters to Sisters Mediathon

April 10, 2008

The Full Story

More than 30 Jamaican female entertainers will come together for a 7-hour MEDIATHON to raise J$10 million dollars towards the building of shelters for battered women.
The Sisters to Sisters concert will take place on Sunday, April 13 from 1.00 p.m. – 8.00 p.m. and will be broadcast live over the internet so that Jamaicans overseas can participate.
Some of the artistes that will be performing are: Judy Mowatt, Carlene Davis, Gem Myers, Leonie Forbes, Nadine Sutherland, Cindy Breakspeare, and Pam Hall.
Minister of Information, Culture, Youth & Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange, who also has responsibility for Gender Affairs, is appealing to all Jamaicans throughout the Diaspora to make this event a successful one.
The Minister noted that over the past thirty (30) years, the Women’s Centre of Jamaican Foundation has assisted many pregnant teenagers and young mothers to complete their education, many of whom now boast diverse and successful careers. “There is now a pressing need to expand the current operations to meet the many challenges our adolescent girls face and to widen the reach of the Centre. We are proud of the achievements to date and are deeply grateful for the work of ‘Food for the Poor’ and like organizations, who have already pledged to support the efforts for improved services and facilities”.
