Singers and Songwriters in St. Mary Benefit from JCDC

November 3, 2007

The Full Story

Young songwriters and singers in St. Mary were recently provided with tips on song composition and musical arrangement and presentation, at a workshop sponsored by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC).
Gospel singers and music producers Robert and Genevieve Bailey were the main presenters at the workshop, which was held at the Anglican Church Hall in Port Maria.
JCDC Organizer for St. Mary, Denise Morrison, told JIS News that the workshop was to prepare persons to participate in the performing and entertainment arts component of the annual JCDC festival competition.
She noted that St. Mary has produced several outstanding artistes, who have made their mark in the music industry both locally and abroad, but there is need to develop and enhance the skills and talents of the young people of the parish in the area of songwriting.
Ms. Morrison said that the JCDC is proud to be able to sponsor the workshop, which will be held on an annual basis.
