NEPA Beat #15-NEPA’s Public Education Campaigns
The National Environment and Planning Agency, NEPA, employs various strategies to manage Jamaica’s biodiversity.Coordinator for Flora in the Ecosystems Management Branch at NEPA, Loureene Jones speaks about the management plan in place to facilitate the management and protection of Jamaica’s flora and fauna and their habitat or home.
The Development Assistance Centre at the National Environment and Planning Agency began operations in 2010 as a joint project involving the Government, Jamaica Chamber of Commerce and The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to significantly reduce the time it takes to process development proposals.
Yallahs and Hope River Watershed Management Areas Project developed and spearheaded by the National Environment and Planning Agency, is seeking to improve the quality and quantity of water in these catchment areas. The project, launched in April 2015, will run until 2019.

NEPA # 9 – A Protected Area is an area of land and/or water dedicated to the long-term protection and maintenance of biological diversity, and of natural and associated cultural resources.Over 200 protected areas exist in Jamaica. These include forest reserves, special fishery conservation areas and protected national heritage sites and monuments.
