Shaw Says Commitment to Education in His Constituency Won’t be Cut

Minister of Finance and the Public Service and Member of Parliament for North East Manchester, Hon. Audley Shaw, says that any cut in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) this year, will not reduce his commitment to education in his constituency.
“I am very committed to education, and the support of our children under the Constituency Development Fund. My support to education will not be cut. We have set aside over $7 million this year to assist with children going back to school, including the purchase of books,” Mr. Shaw said.
He was addressing a gathering of teachers, students and civic leaders at the Christiana High School, who turned out to meet the Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, on Wednesday (August 19).
Mr. Shaw informed the audience that a major road to be built in Christiana would not be a bypass.
“It is a development road, which will be installed on the western side of the town. I am hoping that the work will begin this fiscal year. The feasibility work is just about being completed,” he said.
General Manager of the Christiana Potato Growers Association, Alvin Murray, announced a record increase in potato production this year.
“We have had a one hundred percent increase in production this year, over last year. With the help of the Ministry of Agriculture (and Fisheries), and the Scientific Research Council (SRC), we now have our own tissue lab and, within the next two years, we will be able to produce our own potato seeds,” he said.
