October 7, 2010

The Full Story

Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, Senator Arthur Williams, will chair the Public Sector Monitoring Committee (PSMC) which has been appointed by the Cabinet.
The committee will also include representatives of: the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), representing the Public Sector Transformation Unit (PSTU); the Ministries of Finance and the Public Service, Education, Health and Labour and Social Security; the Planning Institute of Jamaican (PIOJ); Office of the Solicitor General; Cabinet Office; and the Financial Secretary and Deputy Financial Secretary.
The Committee has responsibility for monitoring issues relating to wages and fringe benefits, involving trade unions representing public sector workers. The appointment of the PSMC has become necessary, as a replacement for the former Public Sector MOU monitoring committee which was appointed consequent on agreement between the Government and the trade unions on the third Memorandum of Understanding (MOU3) in April, 2008. MOU3 expired in March.
The announcement was made at Wednesday’s (October 6) Post Cabinet media briefing at Jamaica House by Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz.
