Section Of Hopewell to Golden Grove Road Being Rehabilitated

More than 600 metres of roadway leading from Hopewell to Golden Grove in St. Ann, are being rehabilitated under the supervision of the National Works Agency (NWA).
Assistant Parish Manager of the NWA in St. Ann, George Harris told JIS News that the road had deteriorated as a result of heavy rainfall, and that with assistance from Cousins Marl Quarry as well as Jamaica Bauxite Mines in the area, the base of the road has been reconstructed, and asphalting would be done by the end of this week.
Mr. Harris pointed out that while that section of the road was being rehabilitated, the agency would be deploying one of its patching units to repair potholes in other sections. He added that this segment of the work should be completed in February.
He also noted that other roads had received attention, particularly the Parry Town road, which was damaged by flood rains in December 2003. “We have rehabilitated it to a point where it can now accommodate traffic,” Mr. Harris told JIS News.
The Assistant Parish Manager said that about 90 per cent of the flood-damaged roads in the parish had been cleared, and that currently, work was being done on the Mile End to Union road.
Mr. Harris added that construction of a retaining wall was in progress on the Lime Hall to St. Ann’s Bay road, “and we are also doing extensive patching on the truck route from Golden Grove to Drax Hall”.
