Local Government Minister, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, says the Social Development Commission (SDC) will play a significant role in the National Apprenticeship Programme to be implemented by the Government.

The programme, which was announced recently by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, seeks to have trained young persons employed in data entry, which should result in more records and business processes digitized.

With the details to be ironed out in short order, the Minister informed that the SDC will be responsible for the training of the young people.

“It is one of the commitments made by the Prime Minister. The role of the SDC is important to the growth agenda of the Government. We are pretty confident in the programme, because it is going to provide a lot of jobs,” said the Minister.

He was speaking to JIS News, following a meeting with the staff of the Social Development Commission, in Kingston, on March 16.
