Sandy River Road In Clarendon Re-Opened

October 12, 2004

The Full Story

The Sandy River to Macknie (via Rhoden Hall) main road in Clarendon, which was closed late last month, has been re-opened to single-lane traffic, Petra-kene Williams, Senior Communication Officer at the National Works Agency (NWA), has reported. However, Miss Williams told JIS News that motorists must still exercise caution while traversing the road, as the NWA was still carrying out work in that area in an effort to restore total access to this thoroughfare.
“The Petersfield to Yallahs main road via Danvers Pen in St. Thomas is now open to single lane traffic. However, the Mahogany Vale to Windsor Forest road is still closed to vehicular traffic. Pedestrians can use a foot bridge that is adjacent to the roadway,” informed Miss Williams.
The Lucky Hill to Sandwood main road in St. Mary and Cave Valley/Land Settlement Parish Council (PC) road in St. Ann are impassable because of breakaways on both roads, and the Gutter Head PC road in Portland is blocked by land slippage. Both are still closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists travelling to Sandwood from Lucky Hill may use the alternative route through Two River to Freetown and into Sandwood.
In St. Thomas, the Hillside to Whitehall main road is also closed to vehicular traffic, but motorists can use the alternative route through Spring PC road into Whitehall.
Miss Williams said the NWA is committed to clearing and restoring access to these blocked and closed roads, and its teams are working assiduously to achieve this.
“We are still carrying out work along the Glengoffe to Mount Industry Road in St. Catherine, so that roadway is still closed to vehicular traffic,” she said.
