Some $900,000 will be spent to undertake repairs at the Sandy Bay Health Centre in May Pen, Clarendon, selected as the parish Labour Day project by the Clarendon Municipal Corporation.

Mayor of May Pen, Winston Maragh, told JIS News that the Municipal Corporation will be working with the Clarendon Health Department in executing the project.

“There are some leaks in the roof, so we will have to do some work. We will have to do some work on the floor, [as] there are no tiles on [it], which was built quite a while back,” he said.

Additionally, Mr. Maragh said that wheelchair ramps will be installed at the Centre to make it easier for the disabled to have access.

“We will also be looking at the schools and other health centres in the parish that have no ramps,” he said, adding that the Clarendon Labour Day Parish Committee will be seeking financial support from the business community to erect additional ramps on the sidewalk in the town.

Labour Day 2018 will be observed on Wednesday, May 23 under the theme ‘Ramp it up… Fix it up’.

The activities, will focus on constructing ramps in schools to enable physically challenged persons to access these buildings, and installing additional facilities at health centres to enhance the environment for medical staff and clients.

The Sandy Bay Health Centre is one of 320 in Jamaica that provide vital medical services as well as health protection and promotion for residents in small districts islandwide.
