Sandra Glasgow to Head Implementation Unit

In a show of renewed private sector/public sector co-operation and collaboration, the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) has given permission for its Executive Director, Sandra Glasgow, to head the Implementation Unit at Jamaica House. The unit has been put in place as a result of the National Planning Summit, which was held during the month of November.
This was announced by Prime Minister Bruce Golding at the 75th anniversary ball of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, held at the Half Moon hotel in Montego Bay on December 1.
The Summit, which was held on November 3 and 4 at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Montego Bay, attracted representatives from the local and international private sector, public sector and non-governmental organizations, and senior government ministers, headed by Prime Minister Golding. It was aimed at arriving at a consensus on the critical initiatives needed to drive economic growth and sustainable development in Jamaica.
Mr. Golding explained that coming out of the Summit, a plan of action was developed, and an agreement was reached that an implementation unit should be established in the office of the Prime Minister. “It is an implementation unit that would be itself a partnership between the government and the private sector,” the Prime Minister explained.
He said that he had given a commitment at the summit that this unit would be up and running by the end of November.
“And therefore, I am pleased to announce that the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica, has agreed to release its Executive Director, Sandra Glasgow to take up duties in Jamaica House as head of that implementation unit to drive this action plan that we have developed,” the Prime Minister said.
He emphasized that the government is committed to private sector led economic growth in the country, and is determined to ensure that all obstacles to investment and growth that are now present in the system, are removed.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the new implementation unit would report to a Board comprising of both government and private sector representatives, the membership of which would be announced within a week.
