Rozelle Main Road in St. Thomas to be Rehabilitated

The National Works Agency (NWA) is to rehabilitate the Rozelle main road in St. Thomas, which was severely damaged by surges last year during the Hurricane season.
Manager for Communications and Customer Service at the NWA, Stephen Shaw told JIS News that the work would be carried out this financial year.
“As you know, the area is seriously threatened because of erosion that has taken place there over time,” he pointed out.
Mr. Shaw, who visited the site where the $402 million Yallahs bridge is being constructed, said the work at Rozelle would be carried out as part of an agreement between the Government and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), valued at some US$10 million. This agreement will result in several locations islandwide receiving attention, including river training works at the Yallahs River and infrastructure works at Long Bay in Portland, Fern Gully in St. Ann, the Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine, Georgia and Roselle main road.
“We’re going to be doing massive sea defence work at Rozelle and we’re going to be strengthening the bridge there. We’ve already signed for the funding and we’re now at the stage of having the services procured,” he said.
After touring the bridge site at Yallahs, Mr. Shaw told JIS News that it was about 50 per cent complete and should be finished by October this year.
