ROSE Project Gets $259 Million

The Reform of Secondary Education (ROSE) Project (Phase Two), will receive $259 million to fund its operations for the 2008/09 financial year.
This is revealed in the Estimates of Expenditure for the 2008/09 financial year, now before the House of Representatives.
The project seeks to continue to improve the quality and equity of secondary education through school based initiatives and reform support and to strengthen the capacity of the central Ministry and the regional offices to manage reform.
For the 2008/09 financial year, the project seeks to revise and reprint the school improvement plan; complete the implementation of school improvement plans in 99 schools; complete training in the use of diagnostic tools and strategies; support bursary students placed in independent schools; and complete the construction/extension work at Paul Bogle High School.
Physical achievements up to January 2008 included the printing of 300 school improvement manual; the training of 396 schools’ personnel in school improvement planning; the completion of 99 school improvement plans of which 96 per cent has been approved; the training of 421 personnel in calculating school capacity and has placed 703 students in independent schools, with 197 students completing the 3-year programme.
Funding is provided by the government and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
