Effective today (Feb. 9), the main roadway between Martha Brae and Falmouth in Trelawny will be closed, to facilitate major upgrading work as part of segment 2 of the North Coast Highway Project.
Manager for Communications and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw, told JIS News that the road works would last for six weeks and the thoroughfare would be inaccessible to vehicular traffic over the period.
“The roadway will be closed from the vicinity of the Wakefield overpass to Tharpe Street in Falmouth and throughout the period, we will be carrying out major rehabilitation work to the road surface as well as some drain work,” he said.
During the closure, motorists are being advised to use the alternative routes through Rock or Bogue Gate. The NWA is also advising motorists to proceed with caution and obey the posted signs and the instructions of flagmen.
“The Martha Brae to Falmouth main road is an important strip of roadway and we will be working to have it completed in due course,” Mr. Shaw assured.
