Roads in Rio Grande Valley to be Repaired Next Financial Year

Minister of Transport and Works, Mike Henry, has assured residents of the Rio Grande Valley in Portland that some of the undesirable road conditions, which have been plaguing the area for many years, would be addressed during the next financial year.
Speaking at the end of a tour of roads in a number of communities in Eastern Portland on March 20, Mr. Henry said there was also an urgent need to examine a number of bridges in the area, as they were old and were either in need of repair or replacement.
The Minister, who was accompanied by technical officers from the Ministry, and the National Works Agency (NWA), made the tour in response to a request from Member of Parliament for Eastern Portland, Dr. Donald Rhodd, who was also a member of the touring party.
Among the roads toured were those in the communities of Stony Hill, Moore Town, Seaman”s Valley, Rivers View, Ginger House and Mill Bank.
Mr. Henry pointed out that although there was the need to repair all the roads in the area, the work has to be done over a period of time, as budgetary constraints would not allow for all to be addressed at the same time.
He said the ministry would be working closely with the Member of Parliament and the Councillor for the area to develop a programme to repair the roads as soon as possible.
Mr. Henry emphasised that the Government was cognisant of the importance of properly maintained roads to the economic development of the communities of the country, and appealed to the residents of the area to be patient with his ministry, as it puts measures in place to reverse the bad road conditions.

Mr. Henry, and expressed optimism that the visit would yield positive results in respect of the need to rehabilitate the roads in the area.
