The Full Story

Community members of TyDixon, in North West St. Catherine, came out in their numbers to lend a hand in the refurbishing of the Basic School on Labour Day (May 23).

Principal, Mrs. Marcia Campbell, was extremely elated at the work done by Rural Water Supplies Limited, which has adopted the school.

“Rural Water has really brightened up my day, we are very grateful for the help, especially the provision of water in the bathrooms,” she said.

The company has installed a water system in the school’s kitchenette as well as the adjoining bathrooms.

Having lived in TyDixon for over 50 years, Olive Green, who has had two daughters graduate from the institution, ensured that her entire family was out to support the project.

“Labour Day projects are always happening in the community, but today is special for the basic school, as it is getting a facelift and we are getting water, so I’m proud of that and I appreciate everything,” she told JIS News.

Other residents showed their support by preparing meals for the Labour Day volunteers. One such resident, Joan Johnson, said that being a member of the Citizen Association, she believes wholeheartedly that the entire community will benefit from this project.

“The entire community appreciates this project. I myself feel so good. I know the provision of water will make this school safer for our children,” she told JIS News.
