Residents of Oracabessa, St. Mary benefitted from services in health, education among other areas, provided by a number of key Government and non-government organisations, at a community festival last Friday, November 27.
Among the organisations offering their services were the Registrar General’s Department (RGD), National Health Fund (NHF), HEART Trust/NTA, St. Mary Health Department, the North Eastern Regional Health Authority, National Insurance Scheme (NIS), Bank of Nova Scotia and the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS).
The event, organised by the Social Development Commission (SDC), included an entertainment package featuring a retro fashion show, a gospel concert, and popular singer Boris Gardener as special guest artiste. There were also activities for children, including face painting.
Minister of State for Local Government and Member of Parliament for Western St. Mary, Hon. Robert Montague, commended the SDC for organising the event, and the various organisations, which participated.
He encouraged the residents of Oracabessa to continue to support the developmental initiatives currently being carried out in their community, noting that these include the recent upgrading of the Boscobel Aerodrome, construction of a mini stadium, and the Golden Eye Development Project, which he said, has the potential to realise enormous social and economic benefits for the people of Oracabessa and surrounding areas.
Speaking to JIS News, SDC Regional Manager for Portland, St. Mary and St. Ann, Ms. Jeanette Rose-Bryan, said that her organisation was pleased about the success of the event.
She thanked the residents for their support and expressed confidence that the experience will further strengthen the community spirit.
