Report on Rural Bus System to be Submitted Soon

September 26, 2012

The Full Story

A report on the implementation of a rural school bus system is to be submitted to Transport, Works and Housing Minister, Dr. the Hon. Omar Davies in a matter of weeks.

This was disclosed by Chairman of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), Reverend Garnett Roper, during a recent interview with JIS News.

The Chairman said a committee was recently appointed to review the various models governing a rural school bus system, and that the team has had one meeting thus far and should convene another this week to iron out issues critical to the implementation of the system.

Rev. Roper said he is unable to comment further on the matter until the report has been submitted.

"We are expected to report to the Government by the end of October, and therefore I would like to confine my comment until that has been done," the Chairman said.

Rev. Roper was responding to comments made by Opposition Member of Parliament for Central Clarendon, that the Government should implement a rural bus system.
