Report on Public Sector Rationalistion Before Cabinet

November 25, 2011

The Full Story

Cabinet has received its first update on the Public Sector Transformation Unit’s (PSTU) Master Rationalization Plan (MRP).

Minister with responsibility for the Public Service and Information, Senator Arthur Williams, told journalists at Wednesday’s (November 23) post-Cabinet media briefing at Jamaica House that the update is contained in the first quarterly report, which the PSTU submitted to Cabinet.

Pointing out that the two-year implementation process of the MRP commenced on July 1, Senator Williams said some of the proposals and processes on which work has started, are contained in the report. These include: changes portfolio areas, resulting in the transfer of certain responsibilities from one Ministry, Agency or Department, to another. These, the Minister pointed, have been done, “because it was a fairly simple matter”.

He said the report also details the PSTU’s communication efforts at informing public sector workers on the progress of the MRP, and how it affects them.

The Minister said he and the PSTU team have visited a number of parishes to meet with and update civil servants, to this end, adding that only St. Catherine and Clarendon remain to be visited.

“It has generated a good feedback, in that people are understanding what is involved in the process, and are feeling a part of it. So, the next steps will continue, and we will, each quarter, update, not only Cabinet, but the country and public sector workers on the progress of implementation,” Senator Williams assured.
