Rehab Centre to Receive Medical Equipment

The Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre at Mona, in St Andrew, Jamaica, is to receive US$12,000 of medical equipment from the Rotary Club of Falls Church, Virginia, in the United States.
Club President, Ms. Carlota McCormack, said the medical equipment will include surgical beds with rails, utility bath trolleys, commodes, portable oxygen regulators, stethoscopes and digital thermometers, which will all be purchased in Jamaica.
Ms. McCormack said that the Falls Church club will contribute US$2,500, while their partners, the Rotary Club of North St. Andrew will contribute US$1,000, and District Governor of Rotary 7610 contributing US$4,000. Rotary International will provide the balance as a matching grant.
Details of the donation were disclosed by the President during a courtesy call on Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Anthony Johnson, by a group of visiting Jamaican Rotarians, at the Jamaican Embassy, in Washington, D.C., on April 14.
Ms. McCormack said the contribution resulted from an appeal from Ambassador Johnson, when he addressed a recent club meeting.

“This is only the beginning of this project, as other clubs in Virginia are willing to come on board during the next Rotary year,” she added.
Meanwhile, a four-member delegation comprising Andre Hylton, Kellie-Ann Styles, Mark Barnet and Denise Garfield representing the North St. Andrew Rotary club are in Virginia participating in the Rotary International group study exchange.
In an interview with JIS news, team leader, Mr. Hylton, said the exchange programme will last for a month and while in Virginia, they will visit the over 53 clubs in that district. They will also visit various businesses and organisations to experience first-hand how these businesses operate.
Mr. Hylton said that the members of his team come from various business areas in Jamaica and it is hoped that they will use the experiences gained in the U.S. to improve the operations of the organisations of which they are a part. As a part of the exchange, a four-member team from the Rotary District 7610 in Virginia will reciprocate and visit Jamaica in May.
Ms. McCormack, who is Jamaican, said that a delegation from her club in Falls Church will visit Jamaica during the first week of May to attend the Rotary Club’s convention in Jamaica. While there, they will use the opportunity to visit the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre.
Ambassador Johnson commended the Falls Church Rotary Club for responding to his appeal to assist the Centre. “Your club’s assistance in the form of medical equipment will go a far way to enhance the medical care offered in that institution,” he said.
He congratulated members of the visiting Jamaican delegation and challenged them to use the experience gained in the U.S. to benefit others in Jamaica. “You are ambassadors of your country, and no doubt you will make us proud,” he said.
