Regional Data Security Summit Gets Under Way March 17

More than 100 delegates have registered so far to take part in the Regional Data Security Summit at the Hilton Kingston Hotel on March 17.
The summit, titled ‘Securing Enterprise Data in the Cyber World’, seeks to deal with the issue of data security in order to establish a sound base for the development of electronic (e) commerce in the region. The region’s three main suppliers of computer security products, namely: Fujitsu, IBM World Trade Corporation and Microsoft are scheduled to make presentations at the Summit. The Central Information Technology Office (CITO), is the government agency responsible for hosting the event.
Delegates from Barbados and Trinidad have registered to take part in the discussions, while persons from other territories within CARICOM are expected to participate as registration is continuing in earnest.
The cost for registration is US$50.00 and this is payable either by cash, company or manager’s cheque.The conference is open to the public however, the event is specifically geared towards companies’ chief executive officers, decision makers and technical personnel.
The discussions on March 17 will focus on: threats to enterprises, vulnerabilities and their sources; imperatives for delivering trustworthy and secure Internet services; international best practices and standards; risk assessment and the benefits of securing company data; trends and direction in data security; convergence of data security issues; the mechanics of developing a plan for improved security and critical implementation hurdles and issues.
Commerce, Science and Technology Minister, Phillip Paulwell is expected to participate, while the Minister of National Security, Dr. Peter Phillips will deliver the main address.
