‘Read Jamaica’ in New York August 2

To further promote writers and authors of Jamaican heritage, a ‘Read Jamaica’ session will be held at the Jamaican Consulate General, at 767 Third Avenue in New York on August 2.
The event, organized by the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), will also be held in celebration of the country’s 45th anniversary of Independence. This is one of several events to be held in the metro New York area to mark the occasion. Four Jamaicans will showcase their work at the session. They include: Orville Brown, Educator, who has penned, ‘The Enterprising African Americans’; Lana Ho-Shing, a nurse, who has written ‘Belladonna’; Laura Johnson, who has served in Iraq, will showcase ‘Born As A Sufferer’; and Andre Porter, a past student of Cornwall College will reveal the ‘Rise and fall of a Jamaican Don’. The session will include an interactive segment with the audience and authors and there will also be a book signing period.
