Refurbishing work on the Reach Falls attraction in Portland is advanced with first phase works to be completed soon for the re-opening of the facility in early February.
The upgrading project, which is being undertaken by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) in three phases, is designed to develop the facility into a world class attraction to boost Portland as a major tourist destination. The UDC acquired the attraction from the National Land Agency in June of last year.
Dianne Hanson, UDC Customer Service Representative, told JIS News that the organization had hoped to complete the first phase in time for the start of the winter tourist season on December 15, but persistent rainfall in the area, among other circumstances, has delayed work on the project.
To date, she informed, electrical supply systems have been upgraded and the property has been fenced, while work was advanced on the construction of temporary administrative offices, improving roads and parking facilities, landscaping and refurbishing of change rooms and sanitary facilities.
According to Miss Hanson, the UDC was aware of the importance of the project in enhancing the tourism product in Portland and the organization welcomed the support of residents through suggestions, comments and queries in the effort to complete the project.
