The Rural Agriculture Development Authority (RADA) is encouraging farmers to practice safe land clearing methods in order to prevent land degradation. RADA CEO Peter Thompson says because of unhealthy land practices farmers have been reaping negative impacts on their soil, limiting their crop productivity overtime.

Over 5,000 farmers from the parishes of St. Thomas, St. Mary and Portland are to benefit from a 5.6 million dollar project, aimed at increasing their capacity to implement climate-smart agricultural practices. The project seeks to strengthen the resilience of local farmers to extreme climatic conditions and improve the agricultural productivity and incomes of small farmers in Jamaica.

Dinthill Technical High School is preparing young Jamaicans to enter the agriculture sector by giving them a wealth of experience in the business side of farming. The farm is not only geared at training future agriculture entrepreneurs, but is a source of income for the school.
