The Louse Bennett Garden Theatre will come alive with poetic sounds this Sunday August 11 as SenYAcum Edutainment in collaboration with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) and the Canadian High Commission presents the annual Jamaica Poetry Festival. This year the event marks nearly a decade since its rebranding as an annual poetry festival and I have on the line, the Founder of the Festival Yasus Afari and one of this year’s guests Dub Poet and Linguist Cue Kirk who flew in from Canada for this year’s staging.

Thousands of Jamaicans and visitors to the island are expected to journey to the historic Sligoville community in St. Catherine on July 31 and August 1 for Emancifest 2019, to be held at the Sligoville Multipurpose Stadium. Now a staple on the country’s Emancipendence activities, Emancifest will be staged under the theme ‘Where freedom meets culture…Preserving our culture’.

The 2019 Jamaica Children’s Gospel Song Competition hosted in June, marked 16 years of honing the talents of some of Jamaica’s youngest and most promising vocalists. This year’s grand finals show was dubbed the “Sweet 16” and as fate would have it, this year’s winner in the 11-15 category was just weeks away from her 16th birthday.
