When a man gets to age 40 it’s important that he gets his prostate checked once per year. This is important in detecting early signs of prostate cancer. The prostate is a walnut-sized gland located just in front of the rectum. Therefore a digital rectal exam is ideal for detecting any changes with this gland. The problem is not all men are comfortable with the idea of getting their prostate examined this way and therefore shy away from it.
