More than 1,700 storyboards depicting aspects of the life and work of Jamaica’s late cultural icon, Dr. Louise Bennett-Coverley, will be donated to schools, libraries, Ministries and Diplomatic Missions. This will be facilitated through a partnership between the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport and Fontana Pharmacy. The storyboard also depicts excerpts from Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Minister of Culture, Olivia Grange on how Miss Lou portrayed Jamaican culture and instilled national pride.

Parents in communities in Western Jamaica are benefitting from parenting workshops staged by the Child Protection and Family Services Agency CPFSA. The objectives of the workshops are: to instill a greater sense of care and responsibility among parents; improve communication between parents and children and address behaviorial problems at home in order to prevent children from entering State care.

Scores of residents in Somerton, St. James, and its environs last week benefited from free dental services during the Great Shape! Inc.1000 Smiles Project dental clinic. The five-day engagement, held at the Somerton All-Age School, was led by a team of 45 professional and student dental care volunteers from the United States of America, Canada, and the Caribbean. The clinic, staged in collaboration with the Sandals Foundation, saw persons receiving fillings, cleanings and extractions, as well as participating in oral health seminars.

The Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation WCJF has made changes to its Programme for Adolescent Mothers PAM, delivered at the Centre’s 18 locations across the island. The changes, came into effect at the start of the 2019/2020 academic year and involve increasing academic instruction from four to five days per week and the offering of three new subjects. WCJF Executive Director, Dr. Zoe Simpson says the changes will better prepare the girls to return to the formal school system.
