The 2022 International Reggae Poster Contest (IRPC) exhibition is now open at the National Gallery of Jamaica in Downtown Kingston. The theme of the 2022 IRPC was “Women in Reggae Music” and designers were charged with honouring women in and of reggae, as well as women who have contributed to all genres of Jamaican popular music.

Reggae Month is being observed all February long, and as part of the celebration of the legacy and impact of the genre, the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport through the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) has been hosting daily activities and events highlighting different aspects of the music and culture. ‘Reggae Conversations’ is an event in which players in the reggae music industry share stories about their work and contributions to the culture. On this week’s Art’s Page we continue to hear from the iconic Marcia Griffiths on her amazing journey to the pinnacle of Reggae music.

In a genre primarily dominated by men such as the late greats Bob Marley and Peter Tosh and living icons Shaggy and Buju Banton, one woman has always stood out as arguably the best-known and most influential woman in Reggae. Her name is Marcia Griffiths and on this week’s Art’s Page we hear from the legend herself, as she shares part of her amazing journey to the summit of Reggae music.
