The Health and Wellness Ministry has been working to increase awareness surrounding mental illness here in Jamaica. In October 2019 it launched a campaign, dubbed ‘Speak Up, Speak Now’ in a bid to end the stigma associated with mental health challenges. Later it would announce plans to support persons in prisons suffering from mental disorders as well as prevent similar persons from ending up in those institutions.
