Our island’s 64th year of Independence was celebrated in fine style on Jamaica’s Independence Day, August 6, with the annual Grand Gala event at the National Stadium in St. Andrew, the epicenter of the country’s celebration of national pride!
Tightly packed into the grandstand at ground zero, my mission was to capture the spirit of the event, as told by attendees…the perspective of ordinary Jamaicans: their opinions delivered in their own voice. What I was treated to however, was the unexpected, organic event-coverage that was also underway, as Jamaicans in the stands harnessed technology to share the patriotic experience with brothers and sisters of Jamaican blood or heritage who were not currently on local soil.
