In the early 1960s, young Jamaica was finding her voice. She wanted to tell her own stories of Independence, life, love and hardship in music and dance… ways that would attract global attention. In steps young Edward Phillip George Seaga, who would lead the formation of a festival office in 1963. This agency would later become the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) and serve as HQ for the development and proliferation of local folk forms.

The Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology through the Universal Service Fund (USF) is on a mission to make access to the internet and related technologies commonplace. One of the USF’s key initiatives under this mandate has been the roll out of Community Access Points (CAPs) across the island. A CAP was recently established at the Maverly Primary and Junior High School in St. Andrew, part of efforts to further empower students at the institution and persons in the surrounding communities to live, work and do business in a technological age.
