Arts Page – Fine Art Framing and Preserving Culture at Festival

Jamaica is often celebrated as a cultural powerhouse! However, the perseveration of this culture has raised some questions: for surely things of value are worth preserving?

Can culture die out? Can we lose the lessons? Even if our genetic memory preserves things that are in our blood and collective psyche, how do we ‘really an’ truly preserve our culture? And who does so?

These are the questions raised by a walk through the Festival Village 2026. How? By interaction with a very unique booth. One that holds an artist. One Richard Smith. Very popular for his live, ‘on the spot’ rendering of portraits. His skill in doing so, his expertise, drawing you in… and revealing certain things; like motives embedded in his talent and displayed by his craft.
