RADA assisting farmers in Hanover

The Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) is playing its part to help farmers in Hanover, who have been affected by recent flood rains.
“We have already issued some chickens and feed, seeds and some seedlings to farmers,” Acting Parish Manager for RADA, in Hanover, Audley Bailey told the monthly meeting of the Hanover Parish Council, on November 11.
Mr. Bailey also pointed out that fertiliser will be issued in due time, and explained that financial constraints will prevent everyone affected to be assisted immediately. He added that persons suffering the greatest amount of loss will be assisted first.
He reported that crop and livestock losses are estimated to be in excess of $10 million and that area’s in both the eastern and western sections of the parish are still flooded.
Mr. Bailey named areas such as Chigwell, Pierces Village, Forrest and sections of Ramble in the eastern section of the parish, and Cave Valley, Logwood, Prospect and parts of Green Island in the west, as areas still affected by flooding, with the farmers having great difficulty earning their livelihood.
“We (at RADA) are in the process of assisting some of these farmers to see if we can get them back on their feet in a short time,” he said.
The Parish Manager said that farmers in Hanover are known to be very resilient, and he is confident that they will be back in production in a short while.
