Public Sector Customer Service Competition to be launched today

July 5, 2012

The Full Story

The sixth staging of the Public Sector Customer Service Competition will be launched Thursday July 5th by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment, Damion Crawford at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.  Minister Crawford will deliver the keynote address on the theme ‘Service Excellence for National Development’.

The biennial competition which was first held in 2001 seeks to foster a greater customer service focus and the development of a public sector that is service-oriented and geared towards continuous improvement in all its operations.

Following tomorrow’s launch, nominations will open on Monday, July 9 and continue through to January 31 next year. The competition is open to all public sector organisations.

Organizer of the competition, the Public Sector Modernisation Division of the Cabinet Office, say the competition will not only recognise the need to maintain a focus on service quality and improvement but will motivate all public sector entities to raise the bar in their service delivery.  Entities will be judged in the categories of: Best Customer Service Entity, Most Improved Entity, Most Creative Entity and the Best Customer Service Officer. To focus on efforts in modernization, there will be a special prize for the Best Modernized Entity.

To be eligible for consideration, public sector organisations must receive at least a 60 percent approval rating in any one category. Winners for some categories will be chosen based on feedback and nominations collected from members of the public. A panel of judges will have the final decision.

According to the Public Sector Modernisation Division, reward and recognition of service excellence is critical to promoting on-going service improvement efforts in public sector organisations.
