Executive Director of the Jamaica Business Development Centre (JBDC), Harold Davis has said that the provision of appropriate and timely business information and services, will assist tremendously in fuelling entrepreneurship and business development.
Speaking with JIS News, the Executive Director noted that it is against this background that the JBDC has established business information centres across the island to provide clients with current and comprehensive business information on a wide range of topics, such as writing a business plan, starting a business, finding new markets and preparing for export.
Additionally, the business information centres seek to strengthen the ability of small entrepreneurs to access technical, business, marketing and financial services that will allow them to begin on a secure financial and technological footing and to continuously upgrade their products and develop efficient linkages and markets.
“We have found that there is a hunger for real good information,” Mr. Davis pointed out, adding that there has been a “steady flow of persons coming to the centres,” to retrieve various information and services to use in their own business.
The Executive Director explained that the JBDC’s vision is to establish business information centres in every ‘nook and cranny’ of the island and geographic location so that persons “do not have to come to Kingston to access these information and services.”
So far, business information facilities have been established at the JBDC’s head office on Camp Road, the Jamaica Employers’ Federation on Ruthven Road and at the Montego Bay and Hanover Chambers of Commerce.
Plans are afoot for additional centres to be set up at the Negril and Portmore Chambers of Commerce.
