Property Taxes Increase Effective April 1

Minister of Finance and the Public Service, the Hon Audley Shaw, has announced that Property Taxes will be increased effective Thursday, April 1.

The flat rate which is applicable to unimproved values up to $300,000 will be increased from the current $600 to $1,000. For unimproved values exceeding $300,000, a rate of $1,000 will be applicable for the first $300,000 and for every dollar thereafter .75%.
The Property Tax is an important source of funding for Local Government activities. All the tax collected is paid into the Parochial Revenue Fund and are used for the following:
Collection and disposal of solid wasteFinancing the provision of street lightingSupport the Parish Councils Administrative costs A number of community initiated projects.
The last adjustment in Property Tax was made in 2005. It has been gazetted and copies can be purchased from the Jamaica Printing Services.
