Approximately 44,800 tonnes of imported cement will be received by two private companies, Mainland and ARC Systems, tomorrow (September 12).Of that amount, Mainland is to receive 42,500 tonnes in both jumbo and regular bags, while ARC Systems is to get 2,300 tonnes.
This is the word from the Ministry of Industry, Technology, Energy and Commerce (MITEC), in conjunction with the Incorporated Master Builders Association, the Hardware Merchants Association, and the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce.
At a joint meeting at the Ministry today (September 11), the entities reported that additional shipments totalling 57,000 tonnes are expected by the end of the month. Buying House is to provide approximately 30,000 tonnes with two thirds being regular bagged cement and the remainder in jumbo bags while ARC Systems is to supply the remaining 27,000 tonnes.
The entities also announced that approximately 16,000 tonnes of cement would be made available this week from the Caribbean Cement Company Limited.
Last week the cement company sold 17,439 tonnes of cement, with 4,539 being bulk, 1,277 in jumbo bags and the remaining 11,573 tonnes converted to 409,000 regular bags.
The company reported that year-to-date sales amounted to 639,638 tonnes, compared with 616,125 tonnes for the similar period last year.
