Principal of Christina Leased Primary Welcomes New Block

Acting Principal of the Christina Leased Primary School in Manchester, Thelma Hendricks, has welcomed the new block of classrooms at the institution, noting that the addition has not only addressed the problem of overcrowding, but has helped to improve the attitude of students.
“The atmosphere has changed here. Children are no longer fighting for space. For years, we had a situation where 70 students were in classrooms that were built to house 30 students, but with the new block being added, we are seeing a difference in the manner of the students, and I am thankful to the Ministry of Education, for responding positively to our pleas,” Mrs. Hendricks told JIS News, in an interview.
Minister of Education, Andrew Holness, opened the new block recently, which includes multi-purpose rooms, and was constructed at a cost of more than $50 million, through joint funding from the Government of Jamaica and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
Meanwhile, in his address at the opening of the new building, Member of Parliament for North Eastern Manchester and Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Audley Shaw, urged parents to ensure that their children take the best advantage of the education offered at the institution.
“The commitment that I have consistently placed on education and educational institutions is well known. As parents, we have a great responsibility to protect our children because we are under siege, not only by the spectre of crime and violence, but a crisis of falling standards. Even as we dedicate this wonderful school building, let us dedicate ourselves to uplift standards in the society. Parents, take charge of your children, send them to school, and in doing so, we would have taken charge of our future,” Minister Shaw said.
