The Full Story

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller will leave the island on Saturday August 17 to lead a delegation on a five-day official visit to the People’s Republic of China, from August 21-25, 2013.

Prime Minister Simpson Miller will be accompanied by Sen. Hon Arnold J. Nicholson, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; Hon. Robert Pickersgill Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change; Ms. Onika Miller, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister and Dr. the Hon. Carlton Davis, Special Envoy and Chief Advisor as well as Support and Communications personnel.

A small business delegation will also accompany the Prime Minister to explore trade and investment opportunities with officials and business interests in China.

During the five day official visit, Prime Minister Simpson Miller will meet with the President and the Premier of the People’s Republic of China and will reaffirm our bilateral relations, including celebrating the 40th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries, that was established in November 1972.

Prime Minister Simpson Miller and her delegation will also meet with the China/Jamaica Friendship Society which promotes greater people to people contact.

Prime Minister Simpson Miller’s official visit to China in August 2013 follows on her bilateral meeting with the President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping, who met with CARICOM leaders in Trinidad and Tobago on June 2, 2013.

Prime Minister Simpson Miller will return to the island on 27th August and in her absence, Dr Omar Davies, Minister of Housing, Transport and Works will be in charge of the Government.
