Prime Minister Golding Congratulates New Cuban President, Raul Castro

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has congratulated Raul Castro, on his election to the office of President of the Republic of Cuba.
In a congratulatory letter sent today to the new Cuban President , Mr. Golding extended best wishes from the Government and people of Jamaica, for a successful term of office and for continued peace, progress and development for the people of Cuba.
Mr. Golding said the orderly transfer of power at the Parliamentary elections held in Havana yesterday, is a reflection of the strength of the political system in Cuba and the enduring legacy of the Revolution which has guided the development of Cuba for the last 50 years.
Mr. Golding recalled that just last week he had the honour of paying tribute in Parliament to outgoing President Fidel Castro, noting that his dedicated service to Cuba and forceful impact on the consciousness of mankind, would ensure his place in history among the great leaders of the 20th century.
