Prime Minister Expresses Condolences to Residents Affected by Tornado in Oklahoma

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller has expressed condolences to the families of those killed during one of the strongest tornados ever to hit the State of Oklahoma.

The tornado with wind speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour ripped through Oklahoma on May 20, 2013 resulting in deaths of some 24 persons and leaving in its wake widespread damage and destruction.

In a condolence message addressed to the President of the United States, the Prime Minister said: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the many tragic deaths and the widespread destruction of property caused by the passing of a tornado, described as among the deadliest and most destructive in the history of the United States, through the suburbs of Oklahoma City on Monday. The Government and people of Jamaica join me in expressing profound condolences to the bereaved relatives and friends of the victims, as well as our deepest sympathy to those who have suffered injuries and have been displaced as a result of this disaster. Our prayers are with the American People, especially those in Oklahoma City and its immediate environs, as you commence the daunting task of rehabilitation and reconstruction. Please accept, Mr. President, my best wishes and support as you comfort and encourage your people.”
