The Full Story

Prime Minister, Hon. Bruce Golding has remarked on the sensational performance of Jamaica’s athletes at the World Championships in Berlin, saying: “Our athletes have put Jamaica on top of the world again. Let’s transform this performance on the track to every single area of our endeavour and let us work towards making Jamaica the God-blessed paradise that it was meant to be.”
Mr. Golding praised super star sprinter, Usain St Leo Bolt, for his superb performance in breaking his own 200 metres world record on August 20, that was set at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, bringing the time down to 19.19 seconds.
“In Usain Bolt, we see what happens when God-given talent is honed through discipline and training,” said the Prime Minister of Bolt’s record-breaking performance. He also congratulated 200-metre finalist, Steve Mullings, who in placing fifth in the event, was giving his best performance for the season.
The Prime Minister had more praises for Jamaica’s gold medalist in the 400-metre hurdles final, Melaine Walker, who won her race earlier.
“Our women continue to excel in their performance on the track and just about every walk of life, making us all proud Jamaicans for another day straight after yesterday’s excellent performance by Brigitte Foster-Hylton and Delloreen Ennis-London,” the Prime Minister said.
