Portland Primary School Students Get Health Care Packages

Seventy-three grade six students from two primary schools in Portland’s Rio Grande Valley, have been presented with health care packages to assist with their nutritional preparation for the GSAT examination.
The packages, which contained Habberange Omega 3 capsules and Minadex multi-vitamin syrup, were presented to the students during a ceremony held at the Port Antonio Regional Office of the Ministry of Education on Tuesday, February 3.
The presentation was made possible by HD Hopwood and Company Limited, which donated the supplies. The schools involved were Moore Town Primary and Junior High and Comfort Castle Primary and Junior High.
The schools were specially selected because of the traumatic effect the December 19 road accident, in which 14 persons died, has had on the residents of the Rio Grande Valley area.
In presenting the packages to the students, H.D Hopwood’s Brand Manager, Deborah Allen, said her company was pleased to be able to make the donations. She said the company recognised that some parents and guardians were not able to provide the nutrition necessary for the development of their children in school.
Asserting that the capsules will provide the necessary vitamins needed by the children, she said that the supplements, will help to keep their brain healthy and enable them to function properly.
Thanking H.D Hopwood for the gesture, Director of the Ministry of Education’s School Feeding Programme, Helen Robertson, said the Ministry is looking forward to the continuation of the partnership in providing for the nutritional needs of students. Also thanking H.D. Hopwood and Company Limited, was Regional Director for Region 2 of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Ann-Marie Hall.
