The Full Story

Hundreds of young people as well as adults are expected to attend the first staging of ‘Poetry in the Park’, to be held on Saturday, April 3, at the Turtle River Park in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
The event, which is being promoted by Claudette G and the Talent Store Company, will seek to give young people in and around St. Ann the opportunity to express themselves creatively through the medium of poetry.
Founder/Manager for the Claudette G and the Talent Store Company, Mrs. Claudette Graham, told JIS News that she is anticipating a successful event.
“Claudette G and the Talent Store is a group of local poets who feature collective works of art, for example, poetry performances, drama, singing and craft items,” Mrs. Graham said, noting that the company was only four months old, but is determined to pursue big dreams.
She informed that the event will begin at 12 noon and will feature guest performances from persons, such as Ras Ichious (Pala Pala), Jah Kronik, the Harmonising Three, Commando Shad and many others.
“We are hoping that through this medium young people will have something positive; they will have a positive outlet for their creativity,” she said, adding that the event would also feature cultural presentations from various schools in the parish as well as presentations from young poets who are a part of the Talent Store.
She noted that the Brown’s Town Community College would be operating an educational booth and that there would also be a display and book sale by I-Nation.
“The event promises to be entertaining as well as educational and we are hoping to make it into a calendar event where young people can look forward to showcasing their talent every year, knowing that they have a ‘free’ stage to perform on, and the event will be free every year, so persons will be able to attend at no charge,” Mrs. Graham said.
She is appealing to the residents to come out and support ‘Poetry in the Park’. “Come out and let your presence be felt. Support the young people in positive action, because they are the future of this God-blessed country,” she said.
