Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeill (right), is in animated discussion with the newly appointed Managing Director of the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), Mr. Omar Sweeney, on ways to boost community participation in the local tourism sector. The occasion was a recent courtesy call by Mr. Sweeney at the Ministry’s New Kingston offices. The two government entities have partnered on a number of development projects including the implementation of a policy and strategy framework to significantly boost community-based tourism projects in Jamaica. Earlier this month the Ministry’s Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), in conjunction with JSIF, ran a Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) Boot Camp/Workshop for Community Based Tourism Enterprises in Montego Bay. Representatives of several community-based tourism groups participated in the training camp.
