Governor General Receives Her Majesty, The Queen’s Baton

Their Excellencies, the Governor-General, the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen (centre), and Lady Allen (3rd left), lead a symbolic relay procession along the King’s House driveway on Sunday (April 6) with Her Majesty, The Queen’s Baton, which contains her Message for this year’s 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The Baton, which arrived in the island, at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, on Saturday (April 5), from the British Virgin islands, is being taken on a relay tour of the 71 nations and territories of the Commonwealth, headed by the Queen, that will participate in the Games, from July 23 to August 3. The Baton will be taken on a symbolic relay run around Jamaica before being taken to the Cayman Islands on April 11. Among those accompanying Their Excellencies were Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) First Vice President, Christopher Samuda (left), and Second Vice President, Vishu Tolan (4th left); and Olympia, Donald Quarrie 93rd right), who made the symbolic hand-over of the Baton to the Governor-General.
