PM Turns on Traffic Lights in Priory

Motorists in St. Ann should enjoy a smoother flow of traffic, with the installation of traffic lights at the Priory intersection in St. Ann’s Bay.
The lights, which were set up at a cost of $2.6 million, were switched on yesterday (Oct. 5) by Prime Minster, Portia Simpson Miller, during her tour of segment three of the North Coast Highway Development Project.
“I hope that this intersection and what we are about to do, will help to save lives and help to create the kind of discipline and good order that we need in this country,” the Prime Minister said.
The tour, which started out at the Aqualta Station in St. Mary, included stops at the Rio Bueno By-Pass in St. Ann and the Martha Brae Water Project in Trelawny.
“I really feel that at this time and stage, we should ensure that our people can have access to proper water supply,” the Prime Minister said of the Martha Brae project, which covers an extensive part of the hinterland of northern Trelawny and the coastal communities of Martha Brae and Rio Bueno.
“I think the source here and the other to come, will be supporting the hotel development that will be taking place and communities will benefit as well,” she added, pointing out the developments taking place in the parish, would benefit the country on the whole.
The Martha Brae Water Plant, which was recently refurbished, will support tourism-type developments in areas such as Duncans, Silver Sands and Harmony Hall.
Meanwhile, Minister of Housing, Transport, Water and Works, Robert Pickersgill, noted that, the North Coast Highway Project, “will definitely improve the quality of life for people”.
“Our philosophy is that the road to development is the development of roads,” he added.
