PM to Address UNGA Sept 27

Prime Minister, The Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, will deliver Jamaica's policy statement to the 67th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) tomorrow (Sept. 27).

She will speak at approximately 10:30 am local time.

Yesterday (Sept. 25) the Prime Minister joined other world leaders at the opening of the UNGA at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States.

The session included presentations by US President, Barack Obama, and the leaders of Brazil, Serbia and France.

After the opening, the Prime Minister attended a luncheon hosted by UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, where she was welcomed by many world leaders and congratulated on Jamaica attaining its 50th Anniversary of UN membership and 50 years of Independence.

Mrs. Simpson Miller will also participate in a meeting between the UN Secretary General and CARICOM leaders; meet with the head of the Inter-American Development Bank, Luis Alberto Moreno; and hold bilateral talks.

On Monday (Sept. 24), the PM attended the launch of the Hillary Clinton Equal Futures Partnership, which she endorsed on behalf of Jamaica.

The initiative seeks to forge a partnership involving governments, multilateral organisations, the private sector and civil society, to expand women's participation in appointed and elected political positions; and to improve women's access to decent work, markets, financial services and ownership of productive assets including land.

Following the launch, she attended a reception hosted by President Obama and First Lady, Michelle Obama

The Prime Minister returns to Jamaica on Friday (Sept. 28).
