PM Pleased with Progress of Work on Bogue Road and Falmouth Pier

Prime Minister, Hon. Bruce Golding, has expressed pleasure at the progress of work being carried out on the dualisation of the Bogue main road in Montego Bay, St. James and the Falmouth cruise ship pier in Trelawny.
The Prime Minister and Transport Minister, Hon. Mike Henry, along with a team of technocrats, toured both projects on Wednesday (May 12) at which time they got an update on the work being done.
With the new completion date for the Bogue main road set for the end of July 2010, due to delays to address underground gas pipes along the route, Prime Minister Golding commended the contractor, Surrey Paving and Aggregates Limited, on the efforts to advance the project.
He urged the company to pay attention to details and contain expenses as much as possible, as it makes up for the lost time.

“It (the Bogue Road) is an important project. We attach great significance to it particularly because of the effect it is going to have on the efficient movement of traffic within the city of Montego Bay. We certainly want you to try and ensure that it is properly done and completed,” Mr. Golding told the National Works Agency (NWA) team and representatives from the contracting company.
The dualisation of the Bogue main road is being funded jointly by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and the Government of Jamaica (GOJ), at a cost of approximately $1.4 billion.
Minister Henry, who spoke to journalists following a tour of the Falmouth cruise ship pier, informed that the project is “about 80 per cent of where it is meant to be”.
The first ship is expected to dock at the pier in November, and the facility will welcome the large Genesis class of vessels between February and March 2011, which is the targeted deadline for completion of the pier.
